Hiring a personal injury lawyer is often a very daunting task, especially given that it’s usually during a time where stress, pain and an endless list of ‘to-dos’ are among a million things to do but one Seattle law firm is changing how clients are treated, and reaping the benefits.
Although they are not ones to write you a script or heal your aching wounds, the Gosanko Law Firm are one of a few firms in the Seattle area that is getting allot of attention because of the firms attention to working with clients that have been injured by going the distance onto trial.
That means going to trial for clients which is a 90% turn from the personal injury industry standard of pursuing settlements.
Owner and lawyer Gary Gosanko said, “We look at the practice of law as a 100% commitment to our clients. We are in this for the long-haul and this includes building and keeping relationships with our clients, with their healthcare providers, and even with insurance adjusters and opposing attorneys.”
But Gary’s journey to personal injury law wasn’t a direct vector, it took soul searching, having new experiences and working for an experienced judge to realize that he found his passion in helping individuals against big businesses.
“As I went through law school and studied a number of different subjects, my focus began in tax law – somewhat dry, but I loved the thought of trying to outwit the taxing agencies,” said Gosanko who says it was a wonderful experience working for an experienced judge, where he was able to comb through a number of personal injury lawsuits.
What Gary learned by studying those lawsuits gave him the incentive to represent injured clients, and that was the game changer.
He turned to helping individuals rather than companies and left the court in 1985 to open his own office, The Gosanko Law Firm.
Within a few years his entire practice focused on personal injury law representing people who had been injured through the negligent acts of others. Gary explains this primarily involves motor vehicle collisions, but also involved injuries on the job site, dog bite cases, brain injury cases, motor cycle accidents, and trucking accidents that happen every day.
“I found that representing individuals against the big businesses and against the big insurance companies was very rewarding, I felt like my clients received justice that they wouldn’t have gotten on their own.”
I’m sure you’re thinking it, so I’ll say it, what sets his approach in client and attorney relationships apart from all the rest, because there are so many to choose from. It can be a mind boggling task just choosing a lawyer, let alone one that has your best interest in mind and not dollar signs scrolling through your retinas.
Gary assures and comforts his clients by being available to them at almost any time, and not limiting them to speaking solely with a paralegal.
Convenience for their clients is also crucial. They even have an online chat on their website that seeks to provide prompt service with inquiries. They strive to be easily accessible from their very first encounter.
“We are in a service industry. If we don’t take that to heart, we won’t be in business long. We always try to return calls promptly and to have a person that our clients and prospective clients can talk to,” said Gary.
Not only those set them apart, but they also go above and beyond to cater to their clients like family and friends, making it a more personable experience.
“We recognize that many of our clients don’t have the ability to come to us –they may be in the hospital or their only means of transportation may have been demolished. So, we will often drive out to a prospective client’s home or meet them at the hospital or their doctor’s office.”
They also give free initial consultations to people who have been injured and are just beginning the process and unsure of what their rights are, how to proceed with their case, and unsure if or when an attorney is needed. This makes it easy and comfortable for new clients to come in without feeling obligated.
Making this all happen requires a team, Gary isn’t just a one man show, he has two other lawyers that work in the firm, his partner Mark O’Halloran, who has been with the practice for over 8 years, an associate, Nick Lepore, who recently joined the firm with some great prior legal experience, and a staff that has stood by his side for as long as 16 years.
The Gosanko Law Firm has many accomplishments under their belt including significant settlements and judgments for many clients over the years. Gary says his greatest accomplishment has been helping his clients through their ordeals and seeing them smiling at the end of the case, regardless of the amount of money that he has been able to obtain for them.
“We don’t believe in forcing clients to accept a settlement offer rather than going to trial. After all, it is not our case, but our client’s case. I know that a number of law firms increase their fee if the case goes to trial. We don’t do that because I believe it has the effect of forcing clients into unacceptable settlements.”
He says that in the future he hopes that his practice will continue to give great service to their clients and will continue to grow through the ongoing recommendations of his clients and their treating healthcare providers. Through word of mouth with friends and families, word of an exceptional lawyer can spread like wild fire. Receiving a great review as well as feeling as if you leave with another friend in this world is something that all service industries serving the people can hope to strive for.
Standing behind their clients as an advocate The Gosanko Law Firm has established just that reputation in its 25+ years of serving clients throughout Washington.
